Book Review: Fever Dream by Elsie Silver

If Elsie Silver writes a cowboy romance, chances are I'm reading it immediately—and Fever Dream was no exception.

As the first book in the new Emerald Lake series, Fever Dream introduces readers to professional bull rider Emmett Bush and Julia Silva, a film location consultant who happens to be the younger sister of Emmett's biggest rival. From the very beginning, the chemistry between Emmett and Julia crackles off the page. Their banter is sharp, their attraction is undeniable, and watching their relationship develop while cameras are rolling adds an extra layer of tension that kept me turning pages late into the night.

One thing Elsie Silver consistently does well is create heroes who look tough on the outside but are absolute softies when it comes to the woman they love. I also loved the reality-show setting. It felt fresh compared to many small-town romances, and the behind-the-scenes drama created plenty of opportunities for conflict without feeling overly forced. That said, this wasn't quite a five-star read for me. While I enjoyed the romance, I found myself wanting a little more emotional depth from both characters. Fever Dream is a strong start to the Emerald Lake series and will absolutely satisfy longtime Elsie Silver fans. While it may not dethrone some readers' favorite Chestnut Springs books, it's an entertaining, emotional romance that left me excited for the next trip back to Emerald Lake.
